Playbook Speech Therapy serves clients located in Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Maine. Services are offered remotely through secure Zoom sessions, allowing clients to receive personalized speech-language therapy from the comfort of their home.
We are a self-pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance or participate in insurance plans. Some clients may be able to submit claims to their insurance for reimbursement if speech therapy services are covered.
We recommend contacting your insurance provider before starting services to understand your out-of-network benefits. When you call, explain that you plan to work with a speech-language pathologist licensed in your state who provides telehealth services. Then ask:
Do you cover this service out-of-network (CPT code 92507)?
Do you also cover speech-language evaluations (e.g., 92521, 92522, 92523)?
What percentage is reimbursed?
What is my deductible, and has it been met?
Do I need preauthorization or a referral?
Are there visit limits?
Do I need to submit anything besides a superbill?
This will help you estimate your costs and avoid delays with out-of-network reimbursement.
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes all the information your insurance company may need to process an out-of-network claim, such as provider information, diagnosis codes, procedure codes, and the dates and cost of services.
Clients who wish to use a superbill are encouraged to contact their insurance company in advance to confirm eligibility for out-of-network reimbursement and to understand their coverage limits.
Steps to use a superbill:
Contact your insurance company before starting therapy to confirm out-of-network reimbursement eligibility.
Attend sessions and pay at the time of service.
Receive a superbill from us (typically provided monthly or upon request).
Submit the superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Keep copies of all submitted documents and insurance correspondence for your records.
Some insurance plans may require a physician’s referral for reimbursement, particularly for out-of-network coverage. We recommend confirming your plan’s specific requirements with your insurance provider.
The cost of services is based on a per-session rate and may be adjusted on a sliding scale according to financial need, subject to review and provider discretion. For more information, please contact us.
Typically, we begin with a free initial consultation through a secure video call, lasting about 15 minutes. While not a full evaluation, it’s an opportunity to discuss your concerns, determine whether services are a good fit, and outline the most appropriate next steps, which may include a comprehensive speech-language assessment before beginning therapy.
Services are provided only in states where we are licensed (Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Maine).
In most cases, the next step is a comprehensive speech-language assessment. This is recommended if you have not previously had an evaluation or if it has been more than a year since your most recent assessment. The assessment is tailored to your concerns and helps clarify current needs and establish clear, individualized therapy goals.
Following that, we’ll begin therapy, with session frequency based on your needs and progress.
Sessions are personalized and goal-focused. They may include direct therapy, caregiver coaching (when appropriate), strategy training, and review of practice from the previous session. Each session also includes clear next steps to help support ongoing progress. All sessions are tailored to the client’s specific needs and treatment plan.
Sessions are typically 30 or 45 minutes in length, with session length determined collaboratively based on your goals, needs, and preferences and adjusted as needed over time.
Our practice is focused on areas where we have advanced training and clinical expertise, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based care. We provide speech-language therapy across the lifespan, working with children, adolescents, and adults. Services are tailored to a wide range of needs, including:
Cluttering and related speech clarity challenges, including rapid or disorganized speech
Social communication and pragmatic language differences
Accent modification, including pronunciation and accent coaching
Other individualized speech-language goals
Yes. Research supports telehealth as an effective format for many speech-language services, allowing for consistent, flexible access to care.
A reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone), and a quiet space are typically all that’s needed.
